REMOTE (Feb. 7, 2022): Governor Polis has appointed Dr. Sergio Guerra, Patrick Cummins, Jr. and Jon Slutsky to the Colorado Air Quality Control Commission, filling the three existing vacancies on the commission. He has also re-appointed Elise Jones to her seat on the commission.

Dr. Guerra will fill the spot vacated by Michael Ogletree, who left the commission to serve as director of the Air Pollution Control Division, and Slutsky will fill the spot vacated by Charles Grobe, who resigned earlier in the year.  Cummins will fill the position vacated by Jana Milford, whose term has expired. Dr. Milford will continue to serve on the commission until the state Senate has confirmed Cummins.

Guerra, a resident of Lakewood, is an environmental engineer with two decades of experience in air quality issues. He has worked in both the private and public sectors and is an expert in air dispersion modeling. He currently serves as the Chair of the Air and Waste Management Association’s Atmospheric Modeling and Meteorology Committee. He has worked closely with the federal Environmental Protection Agency on numerous air quality issues and has published numerous academic papers on issues concerning air quality.

Slutsky, a resident of Wellington, has previously served on both the Air Quality Control Commission and the Water Quality Control Commission. He is currently a member of the Larimer County Agricultural Advisory Board and the Colorado Livestock Association’s Board of Directors. He has worked as a dairy farmer since 1981.

Cummins, a resident of Durango, is currently a senior policy advisor at the Center for the New Energy Economy at Colorado State University. He has 35 years of experience in air quality and climate policy and has also worked for the Western Governors Association and Western Climate Initiative.

Jones, a resident of Boulder, has served on the Air Quality Control Commission since 2019. She also served eight years as a Boulder County Commissioner and currently works as executive director for the Southwest Energy Efficiency Project. She has more than three decades of experience on environmental issues in the public and non-profit sectors.

The Air Quality Control Commission is authorized by law to oversee the state’s air quality program. Its members are volunteers and appointed by the governor, and confirmed by the senate. Slutsky and Dr. Guerra can immediately begin serving on the commission at its next regular meeting in February.
