Colorado voters are on track to approve Proposition FF, which will create a

program to reimburse public school districts to cover the cost of all meals served to

students. The proposition was endorsed by the board of directors for Rocky

Mountain Farmers Union.

“We are encouraged by the results. This can be a win for local foods and local

producers and, of course, a win for our kids,” says RMFU Executive Director Ben

Rainbolt. “Rocky Mountain Farmers Union was proud to support this proposition

and is glad that Colorado voters came out to support providing healthy meals to

children at school at no cost to them. Proposition FF is going to remove the stigma

associated with meal assistance for students from lower income levels and allow

school districts to use their meal funding to invest in their communities.”

Not only does Proposition FF ensure that no child will leave school hungry or

wonder if they will be able to afford)breakfast or lunch, it also creates a local

procurement grant program to incentivize the purchase of locally produced food

from farms and ranches. This will strengthen Colorado’s regional food system, our

local economies, and provide wholesome food to our students while creating a link

to our Colorado agricultural producers.

“Rocky Mountain Farmers Union is looking forward to connecting farmers and

ranchers with local school districts to establish partnerships that will provide

healthy locally produced food to the children in their area,” adds Rainbolt.

Rocky Mountain Farmers Union is a general farm organization whose 20,000

member families live and work in hometown communities across Colorado, New

Mexico, and Wyoming.
