WASHINGTON, Jan. 12, 2022 – On Friday, January 14, U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack will travel to Colorado, where he will join U.S. Senator Michael Bennet in a visit to a locally-owned and operated butcher shop and meat processing facility in Wheat Ridge. There, they will highlight the Biden-Harris Administration’s ongoing efforts to create more and better market opportunities for America’s farmers, ranchers, and consumers through USDA’s actions to expand meat and poultry processing capacity. The event comes on the heels of the President’s announcement last week with Secretary Vilsack and Attorney General Merrick Garland, where they announced an Action Plan that will expand independent processing capacity, support workers and the independent processor industry, strengthen the rules that protect farmers, ranchers, and consumers, promote vigorous and fair enforcement of existing competition, and increase transparency in cattle markets so that ranchers can get a fair price for their work.
