Fifty projects requested by Hickenlooper receive initial backing

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator John Hickenlooper today announced $158 million in funding for projects across Colorado were recommended for inclusion in the fiscal year 2022 federal appropriations bills. Hickenlooper specifically requested funding for 50 of the projects through the congressionally directed spending (CDS) process.

“These projects will make a real difference in towns all across our state,” said Hickenlooper. “Coloradans know best what their communities need, and Congress should do its best to listen.”

To qualify, CDS requests must be submitted by local governments or non-profits. Senators may then request inclusion of these projects in one of the twelve annual funding bills. Congress will now negotiate final appropriations bills — both the House and Senate will have to vote before they become law and communities receive funding. Hickenlooper will continue pushing to make sure Colorado funding remains in the final package.

Hickenlooper was able to include $85 million in funding for 50 projects in the proposed FY 2022 budget bills. A full list of those projects is available below. Projects in italics were requested jointly with Senator Michael Bennet.
