USDA Rural Development Colorado: Trump Administration and USDA Rural Development Invest $457,500 Grant to Help Build Affordable Housing in San Luis Valley
Community Resources & Housing Development Corp. Receives Funding
ALAMOSA, CO – October 1, 2020 – The Trump Administration announced that the United States
Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development is investing $457,500 to help build
affordable housing in the San Luis Valley. USDA Rural Development Colorado State Director
Sallie Clark presented Community Resources & Housing Development Corporation (CRHDC)
Executive Director Arturo Alvarado with the Mutual Self-Help Technical Assistance Grant.
USDA Rural Development provides grants to qualified organizations such as CRHDC to help
them carry out local self-help housing construction projects.
The grant recipients supervise groups of very-low- and low-income individuals and families as they construct their own homes in rural areas. The group members provide most of the construction labor on each other’s homes, with technical assistance from the organization overseeing the project.
The day was also a celebration of families that have recently completed homes that have recently been built through the program and a chance to help those currently under construction.
“Now more than ever, having a place to call home is crucial to our rural residents,” said Clark. “USDA is a strong partner with rural communities, because we know that when rural America thrives, all of America thrives,” said Clark.
While in Alamosa, Clark also visited with the Valley-Wide Health Services, Inc. The entity was previously awarded a $50,000 Community Facilities Grant to purchase four new passenger vehicles to provide transportation services to patients that currently do not have access to public or private transportation.
“Having access to quality health care is a vital component for economic stability and growth,” said Clark.
