NFU: Apply for a Value Added Producer Grant

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Rural Business-Cooperative Service is now accepting applications for Value-Added Producer Grant (VAPG) program. VAPG supports farmers  in the development of value-added producer-owned businesses, ultimately helping farmers earn a larger share of the retail food dollar.
Paper applications are due by March 10, 2020 and electronic applications are due by March 5, 2020. The anticipated award announcement date is July 31, 2020. This year’s funding level is approximately $37 million, though additional funding may become available at a later date.
There have been numerous changes to the VAPG program this year. For example, language was added regarding requirements for hemp eligibility. Anyone applying should read the full federal register announcement and review program eligibility and application requirements on USDA’s Rural Development Website.
