National 4-H Week To Be Celebrated October 6-12
(Cheyenne Wells, Colo.) Cheyenne County 4-H members met with the Cheyenne Board of County Commissioners on Tuesday, September 26 to request a proclamation declaring October 6-12 as National 4-H week. Addison Engelbrecht, Tennyson Jackson, Shaylee Scheler, Ty Scheler, and Allison Gekeler ventured into the meeting room to introduce themselves, share 4-H projects taken, and showcase what they are learned in the program.
“I have learned patience and commitment,” Shaylee Scheler said with a confident smile. Other members said they had learned new skills in baking, animal nutrition, time management, and leadership.
The members presented the proclamation and it passed unanimously.

WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Cheyenne County are proud to honor the 4-H Youth Development Program of Colorado State University Extension for 109 years of providing experience-based education to youngsters throughout the state; and
WHEREAS, this admirable program, which seeks to provide a learning experience for the whole child, including head, heart, hands, and health, helps young Coloradoans to acquire knowledge, develop life skills, and form attitudes to enable them to become self-directed, productive, and contributing members of our society; and
WHEREAS, its 26,000 urban, suburban, and rural youth participants, ranging in age from five to eighteen, hail from diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds and truly represent a cross-section of the state; and
WHEREAS, the program undoubtedly could not have achieved the success that it has today were it not for the service of its more than 11,000 volunteers who have given generously of their time, talents, energies, and resources to the youth of Colorado; and
WHEREAS, throughout its proud history, the 4-H program has developed positive role models for countless Coloradoans and through its innovative and inspiring programs, continues to build character and to instill the values that have made our state strong and great; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Cheyenne Board of County Commissioners designate October 6-12, 2019 as National 4-H Week in Colorado and commends the 4-H Youth Development Program of Colorado State University Extension and the many men and women who have made the program a success.
Following the commissioner meeting the members recorded radio sports to be aired on KNAB 104.1 FM starting October 7. Look for lots of green on Wednesday, October 9 as 4-H members will be repping their 4-H gear all day. If you see them, ask what they have learned and why 4-H is important to them. 4-H enrollment will open October 16, contact the Extension office to learn more.
