Acting Governor Leroy Garcia Signs Proclamation on the Colorado State Fair

Pueblo, CO — Acting Governor Leroy M. Garcia (D-Pueblo) today signed a proclamation designating the period between August 23, 2019 and September 3, 2019 as Colorado State Fair Week.

“Pueblo has been the proud home of the Colorado State Fair and an important part of our state’s history for more than 140 years. Not only does it help drive our local and regional economy, but it celebrates our state’s rich agricultural history and rural lifestyle,” said Garcia. “I am proud to be able to recognize and celebrate such an important piece of Pueblo and Colorado history by designating a week to honor the Colorado State Fair. ”

The Colorado State Fair humbly began in 1869 when roughly 2000 people converged on what is now Pueblo for a horse exhibition. Since then, the Colorado State Fair has evolved into the largest summer event in Colorado offering families a fun, educational summer vacation featuring events, concerts, rodeos, arts, and more. The Colorado State Fair is a particularly important event for the industrial and agricultural industries to promote and encourage agriculture, mineral, and livestock growth.

Acting Governor Garcia has been a fierce advocate for the Colorado State Fair in the General Assembly, working to secure more than $300 million dollars during the 2014 legislative session.

The Colorado State Fairgrounds generate nearly $34 million in economic activity to Colorado every year; roughly $29 million of that economic activity is generated by the Colorado State Fair event alone, according to the Colorado Department of Agriculture.
