Colorado State University Unveils the JBS Global Food Innovation Center in Honor of Gary & Kay Smith…Come visit us!

At a donor celebration and grand opening ceremony last week, the Department of Animal Sciences officially opened the doors to the JBS Global Food Innovation Center in Honor of Gary & Kay Smith. The event showcased the USDA-FSIS-inspected facility, which enables Colorado State University to expand as a source of innovation and discovery in the food and meat science industry and better prepare future industry leaders. The 36,000-square-foot center will be a hub related to Temple Grandin-designed livestock handling, food innovation, and product development in meat science and other food products, as well as a place for culinary research. The facility also houses the Where Food Comes From Market, a new retail store featuring a variety of student-prepared meat products, marketed under Ram Country Meats, and other source-verified food items available to the community.

We welcome you, our alumni, donors, and friends of the Department of Animal Sciences, to visit us anytime to learn more about our current programs and walk through the department to experience the facilities that will transform the education, research, and industry outreach we’re now positioned to offer like never before. For more information about the new center and to view photos from the grand opening, view our SOURCE article, the photo gallery from the event, and CSU Magazine story that spotlights Dr. Gary Smith’s impact on the meat industry. To learn about ways you can financially support this facility or the department’s other priorities, please contact the College of Agricultural Sciences Development Office at (970) 491-7686 or via email. We hope to see you in the building soon!
