Colorado Farm Bureau urges confirmation of David Bernhardt to Department of Interior

CENTENNIAL, Colo. — Colorado Farm Bureau sent a letter on Mon., March 11 to U.S. Sens. Michael Bennet and Cory Gardner, urging the confirmation of Acting Secretary David Bernhardt to the U.S. Department of Interior (DOI).

“I strongly support the nomination and timely confirmation of David Bernhardt as the secretary of the Department of the Interior,” wrote Don Shawcroft, Colorado Farm Bureau President, in the letter.

Bernhardt is the current acting secretary and has served in various leadership capacities over the years. Hailing from Colorado, he is well suited to provide leadership and expertise on issues in the West, where the largest inholdings of federally managed lands exist, including creative solutions and approaches to managing our national lands.

“We believe Bernhardt has a strong and accomplished history in various roles at the DOI. As a Colorado native, it is encouraging to see another statesman selected to serve in this administration,” said Shawcroft. “We strongly urge the Senate to immediately confirm Acting Secretary Bernhardt as the new Secretary of the DOI.”

Bernhardt’s confirmation hearing could be scheduled as early as Tues. March 12, 2019.

Colorado Farm Bureau is the state’s largest grassroots organization with nearly 25,000 members across Colorado. CFB seeks to promote and protect the future of agriculture and rural values.
