National Search Underway for Colorado Department of Agriculture Deputy Commissioner

BROOMFIELD, Colo. – The Colorado Department of Agriculture has opened a national search for its next Deputy Commissioner. The principal responsibilities of the Deputy Commissioner include oversight of six of the Department’s eight divisions, working closely with organizations and partners on behalf of Colorado’s agricultural community, and advising the Commissioner on Department activities and operations.
“The Deputy Commissioner will be a key driver in the Department to accomplish our goals,” said Commissioner of Agriculture Kate Greenberg.  “I look forward to bringing someone on board who shares my dedication to the agricultural industry and will assist with the day-to-day management of our dedicated employees.”
Specific duties include:

  • Advise the Commissioner in the direction of all Department activities and operations, which includes policy direction.
  • Develop agricultural policy direction for the Colorado Department of Agriculture on a state and national level.
  • Undertake investigations, conduct hearings, and make determinations in matters related to the powers, duties and functions of the Department.
  • Represent the Commissioner at meetings and boards and commissions, such as the Parks and Wildlife Commission and the Colorado Water Conservation Board.
  • Monitor pertinent legislative and regulatory proposals before congress and federal agencies.
  • Monitor the implementation of the Department’s budget.
Applications are required, among other experience, to have a clear understanding and experience related to Colorado agriculture; proven experience in budget, financial and contract management with the ability to target
areas for efficiency and manage for identified targets; and proven experience managing a senior level staff with diverse professional experience and qualifications, with a focus on outcomes, accountability, and customer service.
