CLA Legislative Committee Discusses Lab-grown Meat…

The Colorado Livestock Association Legislative Affairs Committee met this past Friday via conference call. The Committee was joined by Representative Rod Pelton (R) who discussed two of the bills that he is sponsoring this session.

HB 19-1102 Nonanimal and Lab-grown Meat Misbranding

The bill states that food is misbranded as “meat” or a cut of meat if it does not come from animals and that lab-grown meat is misbranded as “meat” or a cut of meat unless these terms are not modified by “lab-grown” or “artificially cultured”.

The CLA Legislative Affairs Committee voted to support HB 19-1102 Nonanimal and Lab-grown Meat Misbranding at its first meeting of the session on January 18, 2019.

HB 19-1162 – Expand Farm Equipment Sales and Use Tax Exemption

Concerning the extension of the state sales and use tax exemption for farm equipment to equipment and systems used by a farm operation to identify or track food animals.

Representative Pelton is a member of the House Appropriations, Rural Affairs and Agriculture, and Public Health Care and Human Services Committees. Rep. Pelton represents District 65 is comprised of Cheyenne, Kit Carson, Logan, Morgan, Phillips, Sedgwick, and Yuma counties.
