Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Held for CDA’s New Laboratory Division

Gov. Hickenlooper, Lt. Gov. Lynne, & Commissioner Brown Share Value of Services

BROOMFIELD, Colo. – A ribbon cutting ceremony was held on Tuesday, December 18, 2018, for the future home of CDA’s new Division of Laboratory Services. Governor John Hickenlooper, Lt. Governor Donna Lynne, and Commissioner of Agriculture Don Brown shared the value of the agricultural industry before cutting the ceremonial ribbon.
Governor John Hickenlooper
The agricultural community here is united and we put out a great effort.  That defines Colorado in almost every level–and especially in agriculture.
Lt. Governor Donna Lynne
What I’ve learned is how important rural communities are to Colorado. I’ve been able to go out and talk to folks and understand the diversity of you do. And, of course, we are not just a leader in production, we are a leader in research when it comes to agricultural advances.
Commissioner of Agriculture Don Brown
It’s time for new labs.  Our laboratory building in Denver was built in 1973.  We’ve gone from parts per million to parts per billion. We’ve gone from standard balance beams to electronic scales. These labs are a culmination of a lot of dreaming and a lot of building and we will now be able to serve the people of this state more efficiently and effectively.

The construction of the new 27,000 square foot facility is scheduled to be completed next spring and is the final stage of a multi-year project for CDA. In 2014, CDA began the consolidation of six of its seven divisions into one building in Broomfield. This has allowed staff to better serve the people of Colorado with a “one-stop” shop while managing staff and programs more effectively.
In October 2018, it was announced that CDA’s Biochemistry LabMetrology Lab, and Animal Health Laboratory(formerly called Rocky Mountain Regional Animal Health Lab) will combine into one division called the Division of Laboratory Services and will be housed in the new building. The move and recertification of any necessary laboratory requirements will complete the consolidation process.
